Charlotte Olivia Hernandez, 60, of Warrenton, VA passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 17, 2009 after a two-year bout with cancer. Born Charlotte Olivia Tewell on September 9, 1949 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Oran Thomas Tewell and Evelyn Bernard Tewell she was raised in Batesville, Mississippi and was a 1967 graduate of South Panola High School. She continued her education at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, graduating with a degree in Education in 1971. After a brief teaching career, she found her true calling in the field of finance and budget- an area of expertise that became her life’s calling. Charlotte built her 30-year federal service career following her husband’s U.S. Army assignments. It was while working at Fort Devens, Massachusetts that Charlotte met Alex Hernandez of Waukegan, IL, a soldier assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Charlotte and Alex married in December, 1980. Charlotte held federal civil service positions at Fort Devens, Boca Chica Naval Air Station, Key West, Florida; Berlin Army Hospital, West Berlin, Germany; Surface Warfare Officers School Pacific and North Island Naval Air Station, Coronado, California; the Intelligence Material Management Center, Vint Hill Farms Station, Warrenton, Virginia; the On Site Inspection Agency, Dulles, Virginia and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Fort Belvoir, Virginia from which she retired in September, 2008. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 28 years, Alexander R. Hernandez, Jr. of Warrenton, Virginia, her brother, Terry Tewell of Marion, Ohio, her sister, Patricia Robinson of Palatka, Florida and many nieces and nephews, dear friends and colleagues of long standing. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 28, 2009 from 2-4 PM at Moser Funeral Home, 233 Broadview Ave, Warrenton, VA where services will be held at 4 PM. Interment will be on Thursday, December 31 at 1 PM at Arlington National Cemetery. Please meet at the Administration Building at 12:30 PM entering through Memorial Gate.
