Alan Burns
Alan graduated from Roseburg High School in 1978 and attended San Francisco College of Mortuary Science where he graduated in 1980. He holds both embalmers and funeral directing licenses. Alan served his apprenticeship under his father in Roseburg at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses where he was employed from 1978-1987. Moving to Florence with wife Karen in September of 1987 to manage the current funeral home then located in old town. Purchasing the local cemetery Pacific Sunset came first then in 1992 they purchased Riverside Chapel and it became Burns's Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home. The first addition to the facility was an on site crematory. Then in 2004 the Bums's purchased a piece of property on Kingwood street and began the process of building and relocating to their current location completed in January 2006. With this move they again added what the community needed a pet crematory to their facility thus making it the only pet crematory on the Oregon coast. Alan has been very active with Florence city government both as a city councilor and Mayor. He is a past president of both Rotary and Chamber of Commerce and has been a Mason for over 30 years and holds a membership with Florence Masonic Lodge.


Karen Burns
Karen graduated from Roseburg High School in 1979 and Umpqua Community College in 1981 and holds an Associate in Arts degree. She and Alan were married in 1983. Karen became a Iicensed Funeral Director in 1990 serving her apprenticeship in Florence. She and Alan have two children Kourtney and Kenton both of whom were born and raised in Florence and graduated from Siuslaw High School. Kourtney followed in the family footsteps while younger brother Kenton is pursuing an education at Oregon State University and majoring in Forest Management. Karen has been active with the Rhododendron Pageant and is currently a member of Kiwanis Club of Florence and is the Chairperson for Sponsered Youth.




Kourtney S. Burns-Reid
Kourtney is a graduate of Siuslaw High School in 2007 and Mt. Hood Community College in 2009. She holds an AA degree in Mortuary Sciences as well as being third generation embalmer/funeral director in her family. Kourtney is married to Sam as of February 2010 and together bave the love of pets and the outdoors. Kourtney joined the family business full time after college and soon became a member of Kiwanis. She works with the Key Club at the local high school and is the mentor to the Health Occupation students that job shadow during the school year with Burns's Riverside Chapel.


Samuel C. Reid
Sam joined the Burns's family in November 2008 full time and is a licensed cremationist. He is a Eugene native and loves to fly fish. Sam has adjusted to the small town life and he and Kourtney are settled into their first home. Sam is a volunteer firernan with Siuslaw Fire and Rescue as well.
